What Is Medicare?

When we reach the age of 65, or are under the age 65 and have been on Social Security Disability benefits for 2 years or more we become eligeble for Medicare Parts A and B.  Part A of medicare covers most, but not all, of your hospital expenses.  Part B covers most, but not all, of your doctor and medical equipment expenses.  In addition to certain deductibles and copays you are responsible for 20% of the bills.  Now, 20% of $100.00 is not all that much.  But, 20% of $100,000.00 is.  Here's where Medicare Supplement insurance comes into the picture. 

What is Medicare Supplement Insurance?

Medicare Supplement insurance can pay for some or all of the part of Medicare that you would normally pay. Medicare supplement plans are lettered A thru J so as to lessen the confusion that can take place when choosing the right one for you. For example: a  Plan "D" offered by one company would have exactly the SAME benefits as a plan "D" offered by any other company.  A plan "F" offered by Blue Shield will have the same benefits as the plan "F" offered by Blue Cross or any other company.  No more no less.
